Lorraine cooks it up for Maggie’s!

What do Lorraine Kelly, the Duchess of Cornwall and Rothesay, First Minister Alex Salmond, Nick Nairn and several Tayside women have in common? They’ve all provided their favourite tried and tested recipes for the Maggie’s Centre Recipe Collection published this week.

Lorraine was in Dundee making a pot of her Mum’s famous chicken soup to help raise funds towards the £10,000 target set for sales of the new book. Every penny of the £10 cost per copy will go to Maggie’s Centre, Dundee, which serves the whole of Tayside.

There are almost 200 recipes in the collection, which includes a great mix of soups, starters, mains fish, chicken, meat and vegetarian, plus desserts and some curious little bits and bobs.  They were gathered over several years by Shirley Linton, Chair of Maggie’s Dundee, from supporters of her hugely successful annual Maggie’s Centre Ladies Lunches.

Shirley said “I had all these scraps of paper in a binder and really no idea of how to turn them into a cookbook. In desperation I searched online and found a local company, Vine Marketing Communications, who quite literally came to my rescue!  Anne and Sandra immediately volunteered their time to help and, within weeks, turned my tatty folder into a lovely recipe collection!”

Over the last few years, the annual Ladies Lunches have raised a magnificent £150,000 for Maggie’s Dundee and the recipe collection is on target to increase that by another £10,000.

Several VIP’s and celebrities have also provided their favourite recipe, including HRH The Duchess of Rothesay’s Asparagus and Pea Risotto and First Minister Alex Salmond’s Fine Skink.  Speaking at the launch, Lorraine said “Maggie’s centres throughout the UK do a wonderful job helping people whose lives are affected by cancer. They help during very difficult times and offer a wonderful mix of practical support, counselling and information.

The recipe collection would make a lovely Christmas present for family and friends. There are advance orders for over 400 books and they are selling quickly, so I’m urging everyone to get their copies soon!”

Maggie’s Centre Recipe Collection can be purchased in Dundee at Waterstones, Robertsons of Broughty Ferry, the Eduardo Alessandro Gallery, Jessie’s Kitchen in Turriff’s Garden Centre, Westport Serviced Apartments and at the Maggie’s Centre or by mail order Tel 01382 456783.
